Congratulations Candidate,
Welcome to “The News School” (TNS), where the culture of mentoring is the norm. With the huge impact the internet has in society today, there has never been a more exciting time to practice and perfect your written communication skills. Whether you are planning to become a full- or part-time writer, TNS is here to serve and challenge you. It is our goal to equip you with an array of tools while also empowering you to graduate with a sharper understanding of the crucial role that news and online communication play in the world we live.
You are among a select few to be given an opportunity to participate in this unique, on-the-job SEO-certification program, which is designed to improve an author’s ability to write viral content. During this eight-week training process, you will learn how to fashion and transform ordinary news and information reports into textually-rich, quality content capable of attracting readers numbering in the millions. This knowledge has made TNS writers among the most sought-after content producers on the internet.
Though this training opportunity has an estimated value of $2599.00, TNS has waived the cost in order to equip you with the skills needed to join our community of certified journalists. As such, on April 17, 2017, this welcome letter authorizes you to begin an exhaustive, but nonetheless rewarding, eight-week journey, culminating with your graduation, certification certificate, press pass, and a guaranteed job offer.
The TNS offer will include, for those who choose to become full-time writers, a base stipend amount plus royalties. Graduates interested in part-time, freelance employment will be awarded royalty income for the content they produce. In addition, certified graduates will receive payment for the accumulation of published articles submitted during the Boot-Camp process.
Chicago youth can earn additional income by enrolling in our on campus Youth Citizen Journalism Boot Camp Program.
Unlike Unit I of this three-unit process, you will be guided and instructed by several certified trainers and editors. They will lead, inspire and teach you how to transform your original content into fresh, diverse and textually-rich news reports. As a TNS Graduate Candidate, you will have unfettered access to learning aids and valuable tools necessary to successfully complete the certification process. These resources are provided free of charge to all participants who possess this welcoming award letter.
Upon graduation from the TNS training program, you will receive $30 for the three “Unit I” articles you have already completed. In addition, TNS will offer you an independent writing contract to write content for one of nine TNS Publications.
Depending upon the number of articles you choose to submit each month, the contract will entitle you to either a percentage of the ad revenue accrued by your articles or a base monthly stipend for self publishers and editors. Said royalties range between $5 to $300 per month.
As a full-time contributor, you also become eligible to receive payouts from a shared equity pool set aside specifically for our highest content-producing authors. Team leaders, editors or other advanced support groups will be eligible to earn additional monthly bonuses.
Please be advised of your class schedule for the next eight weeks:
Off campus training begins at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time, and is held on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Your first Monday class will last approximately three hours. Sessions that follow the first day of orientation are one hour and 15 minutes each session.
On Campus training will commence at 4pm to 6pm, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with an option to receive additional tutoring on Friday
There are no classes scheduled on Saturday, or Sunday, but assignments will be due seven days each week. Once a candidate completes six weeks of coursework, they have earned the right to transition into the final two weeks of the Boot-Camp program, culminating with a two day final exam called “Hell Weekend.” It typically consumes a Graduate Candidate’s entire weekend, beginning at midnight Friday night and lasting until midnight on Sunday.
