For those potential candidates who enjoy creativity or engaging and socializing with others, you will find these internships fun and exciting. The News School Policies 1. ADMISSION: Each News School student (under 18) must have the written approval a parent or legal guardian. 2. ATTENDANCE : Daily attendance will be taken during each class session. All students are to attend all classes regularly and promptly for which they are scheduled. If a student misses a class, parent/legal guardian will be informed immediately. If a student misses 10 percent of all programs, he/she will be withdrawn from TNS unless a VALID written excuse is received in writing. If it is necessary for a student to be absent from TNS program for any reason, the parent/legal guardian should call the school office (773) 522-3050 If the school office has not received a phone call, students must bring a written statement from parents or guardian to the News School office upon returning to school. No exceptions. No excuses . 3. DISCIPLINE POLICY: The purpose of the discipline policy is to facilitate a positive learning environment where each student feels safe and secure; where faculty and staff agree on general principles of discipline within a framework of progressive discipline; where parents/legal guardians are kept informed of their child’s behavior and are encouraged to support the school’s decisions; and where all students are provided with opportunities to grow in personal and social development and, if they are involved in a discipline concern, are given due process. Removal from the program will be a process. It starts with students missing days and/or displaying behaviors that are outside of of the established guidelines of TNS program. Initially, a conversation will take place detailing the violation as well as outlining established future expectations. If the expectations are not followed student will be removed from the program and parent/legal guardian will be notified that their student no longer is participating in the program. 4. MEDICAL POLICY: The student’s parent/legal guardian will be called to pick up a child who is sick or injured. Special medical needs - including medication - must be submitted in written form the parent/ legal guardian. TRACKING/POINTS SYSTEM In order to qualify for graduation/certification students must earn a minimum of 1000 points. Points will be explained in class syllabus.
